Bolam: Not a MAMPAM member. |
If that sounds rather dramatic, consider this; MAMPAM is not unlike Fight Club, inasmuch as it has two rules. The first rule is: NO GIRLS ARE ALLOWED. The second rule is never take the word of MAMPAM in vain (there are several Traditions also associated with MAMPAM, but these are probably best tackled in another blog).
But it's Rule #1 that concerns us today, for it came to be that we would be denied MAMPAM because of...a girl! Specifically, a girl who was purportedly taking 'an exam' of no specificity and had to 'revise'.
Being the gentlemen that we are, we demanded to see official documentation proving not only the existence of the exam, but whether or not said lady student had any chance of passing. After all, if not, she didn't need to bother and we could drink wine (without her).
It turned out the exam was real, so MAMPAM was put back to this Thursday. I rearranged a business trip to make it. Alex declined an invitation to attend a gala dinner; Jon bought some wine in preparation, and Ben has been stocking up on Amazon vouchers so as to buy some good MAMPAM films.
And then, like a ball in a Chinese Shop (I think that's how the saying goes) Alex hit us with the devastating news that he would be called away on business on Thursday evening. To say we were thunderstruck would be a gross and insulting miscalculation of the gravity of the situation.
But then Alex rearranged and said he could come after all.
MAMPAM LIVES, UNCLE!!
MAMPAM LIVES!!

Thanks for all the comments (all three of them) on the review for Cuckoo. More reviews on the way with a little luck. I might rename this blog The Cultural Enclave of MAMPAM.
I can't wait for the MAMPAM Filmfest.....
